Art, music among weekend's events

The Kings of Leon with special guest The Whigs will perform at 7:30 p.m. Monday at the Auditorium.

Tickets for MSU students are $23.50 with a valid student ID and nonstudent tickets are $33.50. They can be purchased at the Wharton Center Box Office, or at whartoncenter.com.

The Kings of Leon most released it’s fourth CD “Only by the Night” in September.

Aspiring filmmakers get the chance to compete in the East Lansing Film Festival’s fourth annual 48/5 Film Contest Feb. 6-8.

Competitors will have 48 hours to create a five-minute film based on assigned elements, including a theme, prop, location and line of dialogue, which must be included in the finished film to be eligible for the contest.

The contest will begin Feb. 6 at Beggar’s Banquet, 218 Abbot Road, with a reading of the rules and regulations, as well as a distribution of the elements. Doors open at 4:30 p.m. and all teams must be registered by 5:45 p.m. Preregistration is strongly advised.

Completed films must be handed in by 6 p.m. Feb. 8 at Beggar’s Banquet.

The films will be shown publicly at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 9 in 102B Wells Hall.

First prize in the contest wins $100; second prize, $50; third prize, $25. The contest entry fee is $50 through Feb. 4 and $75 on or after Feb. 5.

The top three films will be screened at the 12th annual East Lansing Film Festival on March 22 at Wells Hall.
