Ranking system of girls at parties degrading, kills fun

Like many other Friday nights of the past two years, last Friday I dressed up and rounded up some friends for a night on campus, to spend time at my previously favorite fraternity, (Alpha Epsilon Pi). This Friday in particular happened to be Halloween and the fraternity which I had so enjoyed promised a bumping party hosted by Playboy U. Over the past two years, I have become pretty good friends with several of the brothers, and was looking forward to a good night of dancing and catching up.

Unfortunately, I was very disappointed by what I encountered. First off, upon entrance, males without wristbands, even friends of brothers there, were not permitted in. They apparently wanted to maintain the girl to brother ratio, ensuring an opportunity to score. This, however, was previously discussed in the Facebook.com group, so it did not come as a big surprise. I simply entered in through the side door with two good guy friends of mine.

What did come as a surprise were the black numbers in permanent marker written upon my female friends’ hands as they entered the front door and were permitted into the party. I (thankfully) did not receive one, for I had been admitted through the side door. These numbers seemed innocent enough, but as the night unfolded, we soon discovered their true meaning. These black numbers were distributed upon entering as a rating system on a scale of one to 10, of how “hot” the girl was (a 10 being high). And, we were told, if a girl with a four or lower left the party for whatever reason, they were not to be readmitted.

This, of course, caused quite a disturbance between not only my female friends, but most of the females there. The last thing somebody needs on a Friday night, when all they want is to relax and enjoy the night, is such a degrading method of judgment to be placed upon them.

I am personally disgusted with the behavior shown at this party, and do not plan on returning anytime soon, despite the friendships I have made there. I would like to encourage not only the members of this fraternity, but all others to stop this horrible practice, for it is both unnecessary and harmful. Let’s keep Friday nights fun.
