Campus to host black faith conference

For the next three days, Kellogg Center will be the home of the third annual Black Religion and Spirituality Conference.

The theme of this year’s conference is “Challenges and Opportunities in the 21st Century.” The conference aims to analyze the diversity of faiths within the black community and discuss how they are addressing challenges and issues in the 21st century.

The evening sessions of the conference are free and open to the public.

Tonight’s session at 7 p.m. will feature the Earl Nelson Singers Company and guest speaker Bernard L. Richardson, dean of the Andrew Rankin Memorial Chapel at Howard University in Washington, D.C. Richardson will be speaking about the changing environment of religion and spirituality.

At Thursday’s evening session, music professor Rodney Whitaker will give a lecture about spirituality and jazz. Following his lecture, Jazz Band I will perform.

The conference is sponsored by the Black Religion & Spirituality committee within the Department of History.
