Sale benefits local cat rescue shelter

October 29, 2008

The weather in Michigan is getting colder, but instead of bundling up, one local organization is focusing on how to protect animals that often are left out in the cold.

Mid-Michigan Cat Rescue will be sponsoring a benefit sale from 1-4 p.m. Sunday at photography studio Perspective 2, 319 E. Grand River Ave., in Lansing. MMCR is a nonprofit, volunteer-based shelter that focuses on caring for unwanted cats.

MMCR volunteer Tresse Neubauer said MMCR needs to raise more money to be able to take care of more cats, especially in the winter months. At the sale, they will be selling pet supplies and arts and crafts to buyers at discount prices. All proceeds will go to help cats and kittens stay safe and healthy this winter.

“Proceeds will go to a feral cat colony we have on the farm,” Neubauer said.

MMCR plans to clean up the farm and add more hay to make it warmer for the cats this winter. Additional funds will go toward other services.
