Applicants sought for program

July 17, 2008

The Michigan Political Leadership Program, or MPLP, a nationally recognized political training ground at MSU, is now accepting applications for the 2009 class of fellows.

The program awards 24 fully paid scholarships, each worth $12,000, to fellows who take part in 10 months of weekend seminars on running for and serving in public office.

Since the MPLP’s founding in 1992, 424 people have graduated from the program, including mayors, township and county leaders, legislative aides and current East Lansing City Council Member Nathan Triplett.

Program administrator Barb Knuth said MPLP is searching for people who are interested in public policy or running for office.

“Due to term limits, we are looking for people to get involved and hit the ground running,” Knuth said. “This program provides knowledge and experience to do exactly that.”

Applications will be accepted until September 5, 2008, and are available on the IPPSR Web site: www.ippsr.msu.edu/MPLP/Recruitment.htm.
