Police will not pursue felony charges against most people arrested at last weekend’s Cedar Fest riot, East Lansing police Lt. Kevin Daley said.
Although many suspects will be charged with inciting a riot, they will face misdemeanor charges, Daley said.
“We want (the suspects) to be responsible, but we don’t need to cost them the rest of their lives with a felony charge,” he said.
If felony charges are added, the cases would be prosecuted in the Ingham County Circuit Court instead of East Lansing’s 54-B District Court. Daley said police want to keep the cases within the city.
“We’re going to keep it local so we can keep our hands on it,” Daley said.
