Spartans need to learn from past mistakes, show MSU pride

I have drawn upon one simple conclusion from the events at Cedar Village this weekend: Thousands of people do not get it. Being a proud alumnus, I am satiated with the actions of those who continue to defame what MSU stands for and its image. For those thousands in attendance at Cedar Village this weekend, no degree of ignorance can explain your presence. Each and every one in attendance can plead no level of ignorance for their actions. It’s as simple as that.

Our society needs to succumb to the convention that those employed by law enforcement are not out to get us. I know East Lansing police Chief Tom Wibert from his work with Spartans Against Drunk Driving, and he is a man that has my highest level of respect. I agree with his judgment. The opportunity to attend MSU is not one that should be taken for granted. The thing about life is we as human beings learn from the past and others’ experiences.

With that being said, those arrested or cited did not bear in mind the history of disorder in East Lansing. What can those MSU students being prosecuted learn from their incidents? For one, they obviously do not know anything about pride. Second, they have disrespected those past and present members of the Spartan family that truly know and love MSU for what it offers — an opportunity to attend a university of academia and build relationships that will last a lifetime.
