Spartans extend winning streak to 3 games

Senior guard Drew Neitzel guards against a Northwestern Wildcat during the first half of the men

Evanston, Ill — A Northwestern team known for its 3-point shooting had its greatest strength countered Thursday.

The MSU men’s basketball team, which had made the fewest 3-point baskets in the Big Ten, buried 8-of-9 long balls in the first half and went on to shoot 11-for-17 from beyond the arc in a 78-62 win over the Wildcats at Welsh-Ryan Arena.

Senior guard Drew Neitzel led the 3-point onslaught for the No. 10 Spartans (17-2 overall, 5-1 Big Ten) with six triples, finishing with 20 points.

“We don’t normally shoot the ball that good,” MSU head coach Tom Izzo said. “It was nice to see our 3-point shooters shoot well, especially Drew Neitzel who is continuing to progress.”

But Izzo said sophomore forward Raymar Morgan might have been the star of the game
