Sounding off

Virginia Tech is your new national champion.

National bass fishing champion, that is.

A poorly constructed graphic at ESPN.com tells the State News sports desk that the Brett Thompson-Scott Wiley dream tandem put up some sort of numbers in relation to fish caught for the Hokies. Unfortunately, the graphic column headings don’t correspond with the data in a way that allows the sports desk to comprehend said data. We are sorry we cannot accurately report this vital information.

ESPN.com also tells the State News sports desk that there were 35 teams in the competition. Admittedly, we are flabbergasted by the lack of competitive fishing teams nationwide. We at the State News believe in giving equal press coverage to all sports — if MSU had a competitive bass fishing team, you bet they would be on the front page of our sports section.

(If MSU actually does have a competitive bass fishing team, we apologize for not giving you the attention you deserve. We are sure you work hard at what you do.)

So pay attention to collegiate bass fishing when you get the chance. And if you find it on TV, e-mail the sports desk to tell us which channel it’s on. We’re always looking to satiate our bass fishing hunger.
