Dorm story

Since the time of MSU’s first dormitory, Saints’ Rest, the Department of Residence Life has expanded to provide a home-cooked meal and a warm bed to countless Spartans.

Living on

MSU’s housing system is currently the largest in the United States, with more than one third of MSU’s around 45,000 students choosing to live on campus:

More than 15,000 students call the residence halls home throughout the year.

More than 2,000 students and their families occupy the University Apartments: Cherry Lane, Spartan Village and University Village.

Places to call home

With residence halls on all corners of campus, students several options as places to hang their hat:

Housing is divided into five zones: West Circle, Red Cedar, East Zone, South Zone and Brody Zone.

The halls are organized into four complexes: North, East, South and Brody.

There are 24 undergraduate residence halls and one graduate center.

Residence Halls Association

RHA is the student government for students living on campus, helping students communicate with the faculty and prevent them from getting lost in the shuffle.

They are responsible for movie rentals, concerts and special programs for residents.

The RHA office is located in G-7 of Holden Hall.

Some perks

Living in one of the residence halls provides plenty of entertainment, as close as a click of that mouse or remote:

All you need is a cable cord and a T.V. and you can watch your favorite shows while you should be studying in your room.

mtvU is an exclusive channel available on campus, playing music videos from up-and-coming artists.

Students can purchase an ethernet cable and get right online, no outside hookup necessary.

All residents have a voice mail account and room phone number, accessible by plugging in a land line phone.
