Columbia professor to speak at Kapur Endowed Lecture

Western modernity, traditional India and globalization — the themes which once interested Mahatma Ghandi — also have been the subjects of interest for Akeel Bilgrami.

Bilgrami, Johnsonian Professor of Philosophy and Director of the Heyman Center for the Humanities at Columbia University, will speak at 7 p.m. today in rooms 303 and 305 of the International Center as a part of the Asian Studies Center’s Kapur Endowed Lecture 2007.

The title of his lecture, “Can Modern India Learn from Traditional India
