The column titled Broken promises (SN 9/24) lacked both class and tact and is a sad misrepresentation of the pride and respect that MSU has for both itself and its opponents. Calling coach Charlie Weis a liar while referring to a grade school nursery rhyme and mocking his weight problem reflects the insensitive and immature attitude of a second grader. If anything, this man should be commended for battling obesity and losing 90 pounds among other personal issues. Are we not human beings? It’s bad enough this man is on the wrong end of Notre Dame history – he doesn’t need the scrutiny The State News is subjecting him to.
I guess no one really remembers the disappointment that we have endured as fans and supporters of our very own football team. Much like this season, I was there in 2004 and 2005 to see the football team get off to a great start only to lose heartbreaking games to Michigan both times. I also was there last season to see Notre Dame come back and destroy our season. While that is all a part of the past, it should’ve taught us the amount of character needed to be humble in both victory and defeat. I feel that as the main voice of our student body, The State News should at least try to reflect this philosophy or one similar to it.
