Whether you listen to football games on the radio, watch them on TV, or watch them in person at Spartan Stadium, it’s hard to miss a growing phenomenon that has increased in popularity over the past years. Swearing has slowly become a symbol of the student section ever since I started attending MSU. Every year, it has steadily increased.
It’s understandable why the stadium is under capacity week in and week out. Why would someone, mainly alumni, pay money to listen to vulgarity after every other play? Parents with young children, especially, seem to be decreasing at games in number. Their lack of attendance is very likely due to the swearing, and I don’t blame them. If anything, I would discourage parents from bringing their children to games, and exposing them to the masses of immature college students, who are lacking the creativity to shout anything but vulgarities.
