Fit like a glove

Metallic threads, pompoms and "one size fits all" tags are a good indication your gloves need a makeover. It's time to throw out those gloves our moms used to buy us back in second grade.

This time of year, what's awesome about purchasing gloves is the fact that they're on sale virtually everywhere.

The classy vintage cuff style by American Eagle began at the hefty price of $17.50 and now is available for a much more affordable $4.95.

Gloves don't have to be boring. While sometimes a simple pair of white, angora mittens can complement an all-black ensemble, patterns and details also can jazz up a boring outfit.

Materials also are important when choosing gloves. Gloves, granted, are made to keep hands warm, but they're also an accessory that has a purpose. Angora and merino wool, as well as cashmere, are all deliciously warm, yet great canvases for patterns. Avoid leather. It may be warm, but it's more appropriate for driving Miss Daisy.

If you're looking for a warmer glove for trekking the wilderness, the ever-classic The North Face makes inexpensive $25 "Denali" gloves to match your TNF fleece.
