Letter writer misinterprets conservative ideology

I have to say that reading Stephen Roth's letter to the editor, "Conservative movement ideas are contradictory," (SN 8/28), made me chuckle. I particularly enjoyed his argument of the American conservative's "hypocrisy."

However nicely Roth structures his "argument," the problem with it is this: When conservatives say they want to keep government costs down, it does not apply to things like homes for abandoned children.

I personally would much rather pay more taxes if that money were to go to the children to take care of them — not into Washington's pocket or the grossly distorted welfare state.

Conservative viewpoints are not contradictory. If we have to choose between millions of innocent aborted children and "big" government, we would choose the children.
