The bartender

July 7, 2006
Daytime bartender and journalism senior Katie Snyder poses with the Blue Lagoon drink on June 27 at P.T. O'Malley's, 210 Abbott Road. The drink can also be made as a shot. Snyder said it is "more of a summer drink - like a spritzer."

Summer nights got you feeling thirsty? Tired of run-of-the-mill Long Islands and bitter vodka tonics? Need something sweet and cold? Feeling blue?

These are all questions you should ask yourself when staring into the fading ice cubes of an empty glass at P.T. O'Malley's, 210 Abbott Road.

P.T.'s offers you The Blue Lagoon. The vodka-based sugary goodness kick-in-the-pants you need to get hyped. This hidden jewel of a mixed drink fuses UV Blue Vodka, Triple Sec and a dash of Blue Curacao on top of lemonade, sour mix and a hint of Sprite.

The drink is crisp, refreshing and above all, extremely tasty. Imagine a vivaciously spiked lemonade bursting with blue raspberry flavor and a sweet and sour edge appealing enough to light up your smirk.

Now, without being too sexist, dudes should be warned of the drink's natural "girliness," for lack of a better word. This is not something you want to buy a round of for the guys after a rugby match. It's very sweet, very fruity and very, very … blue. Don't get me wrong — it tastes great, but might be too light for the Jack and Coke crowd.

P.T.'s bartender and MSU journalism senior Katie Snyder described the nature of the blue drink. "It's definitely a girlie drink, but guys tend to like it too," she said. "It's like a blueberry fruity lemonade."

Guys, impress your girl with this rare treat and welcome her to the perfect use of $3.75.
