Warning: Bars in E.L. only allow 21 and up, so check out Lansing

Unlike most college towns, East Lansing's bars are not minor-friendly, often sending freshmen to Lansing to go out. Here are some bars for students under 21.

The Temple Club

500 E. Grand River Ave. in Lansing

18 and up nights: Every night! There's even the occasional early concert at 6 p.m.

Cover: Prices vary, depending on the night, but Saturday's DJ night is free for women. Men over 21 pay a $6 cover. Men under 21 pay $10 on Saturdays.

Virgin drinks: Range from $1.75 to $3 for sodas, Shirley Temples, Red Bull and Sioux City Root Beer.

The Dollar Nightclub

3411 E. Michigan Ave. in Lansing

18 and up nights: Wednesday and Thursday nights

Cover: You must have a college ID to get in for the $10 cover price, otherwise it's $25 per person.

Virgin drinks: Start at $1.75. Water is free — except if it is bottled.


Spiral Video Dance Bar

1247 Center St. in Lansing

18 and up nights: Wednesday through Sunday

Cover: Usually $8. It's $5 on Wednesdays and Sundays before 11 p.m.

X-Cel Lounge-Dance Bar

224 S. Washington Square in Lansing

18 and older nights: Tuesday, Thursday, most Fridays and Saturday

Cover: Tuesday is $8 for those younger than 21 for a male revue night, i.e., male dancers.

Thursday is college dance night and is $10 for students younger than 21.

Friday nights are about $10, depending on the night.

Saturdays are known as "Sin Saturday" with mainstream dance music, and cover is $10 per person.

Famous for: Male dancers, All Female Male Revue, theme parties, DJs. In June, some Friday nights will be jazz nights.

Cover: Varies from $6 to $12 for those under 21.
