Logical arguments by 'pro-death' flawed

I am writing in response to the letter by Jocelyn Peirce, "Abortion, Holocaust can't be compared" (SN 2/15).

We endlessly listen to pro-choicers talk about the rights of the mother, but what of the father's? A woman's unique ability to give birth should not override the rights of the father and the life of the child they have created together. Any man's unborn child can be murdered without his knowledge or consent.

I ask where the simple "right to choose" is, which is the rallying cry of the "pro-death" movement. To further my disgust, Peirce uses the argument that a pregnant woman's dilemma is whether or not she will allow her quality of life to be altered by the unborn child. Let us say that a mother takes a baby home from the hospital and six months later decides the child is intruding on her previous lifestyle.

Should we repeal the laws stopping her from killing this infant? Certainly not. Why then, does the additional vulnerability of the unborn human justify the murder of abortion?

Lastly, abortion is compared to the Holocaust to expose the immensity of the problem, not to undermine the tragedy. There is a parallel between these two groups of people put to death by those who refuse to acknowledge their value as human beings.

The real war in our society has been waged on our own children, the most vulnerable to attack. I shudder when I read letters such as Peirce's, fighting to suppress more than 40 million voices who will never be heard.
