Things in pop culture that might make your life a little bit better

Not everyone can afford plane tickets to Cancun for spring break. Here are the five hottest things to get you through spring break if you're strapped for cash and stuck trying to sunbathe in East Lansing.

1 For all those obsessed with everything that is Harry, Hermione and Hogwarts, there is much to rejoice about. The fifth Harry Potter movie began filming in early February, and "Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire" comes to DVD March 7.

2 Fox will air the 37th NAACP Image Awards at 8 p.m on March 3 to celebrate the work of black people in literature, television, motion pictures and recording arts. "Crash" leads with six nominations in the motion picture category, while artists Kanye West, Alicia Keys and Mariah Carey also received music nominations.

3 If you desire foreign cuisine but can't travel to Paris for croissants or Mexico for an enchilada, go to Sushi YA on Grand River Avenue for Japanese food. The California roll is only $3.50.

4 July might be months away, but you can still enjoy the preview to Johnny Depp's sequel to "Pirates of the Caribbean" before it hits theaters this summer. Go to www.disney.go.com/disneypictures/pirates to watch "Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest."

5 There is life after "Laguna Beach." Set in Miami, MTV's new reality show "8th & Ocean" focuses on 10 models as they try to make it in the competitive industry. The photo shoot begins at 10:30 p.m. March 7.
