Take a peek behind the curtain and test drive the NEW StateNews.com today!

Writer should have seen whole show

People who make opinions should stay for the entire show.

As all college students should know, you should always look at the source you are examining to see how credible it is. Apparently, not all newspaper editors do the same when looking at the letters they receive.

Recently, Matthew Kuschel wrote "Troupe shouldn't be sponsored by Olin" (SN 10/28) about Olin's In Your Face Theatre Troupe. He claims the people involved showed little decency and the performance was immoral. What he doesn't tell the reader is the fact that he left after the opening scene that he described after yelling at the performers for being immoral.

I have seen the performance twice this year and would be willing to go again. I have told people to go watch it because it is funny and educational.

This opening scene was a bit of an eye opener the first time I saw it, but this fact was the reason I believe it was in the show. It is the attention grabber that all good books, papers, movies and theatrical performances should begin with.

The rest of the performances bring you sexual education in a way that is, for the most part, very watchable. Who would want to sit down for an hour or more listening to a lecture on sex? I don't know any college age students who haven't already gone through this already, and no one ever enjoyed it.

There are actually some very entertaining skits that told the audience important information about sex and sexual topics. They discussed homophobia in a skit and depicted the problems associated with the condition. They could have just told the audience that homophobia is a condition where people are afraid of homosexuals and stuff, but they made it funny so that the viewer could stand to listen while watching.

So, when you write a letter to The State News you should watch the entire show, not just the most controversial part.

This would be like watching one rape scene from "A Clockwork Orange" and leaving in disgust, saying the entire movie was nothing but rape. Please wait until the end of something to make a judgment on the entire work.
