As a part of Rosh Hashana, psychology sophomore Samantha Dresser throws bread into the Red Cedar River during a tradition called tashlich on Tuesday afternoon. During the ceremony, it is customary to go to a body of moving water and cast away sins. "If the water is static, the sins don't go anywhere," said Jonathan Sadoff, a rabbinical student at the University of Judaism in Los Angeles. He said the ceremony "awakens feelings of repentance and moving on. The bread is symbolic."
