Students sleep outside to demonstrate plight of homeless

Political science junior Sara Casetta, president of the MSU chapter of Habitat for Humanity, said this is the fourth year group members have left their homes for a night to help increase awareness of poverty conditions in Lansing.

"We're sleeping out here tonight to give up our comforts of home," she said. "Some people don't have homes, and it's nothing for us to give up a night of comforts if it makes a point to someone."

The impact of the event is noticeable, Casetta said.

Last year, she said a homeless family of four, who had been living in their car, talked to students and showed them how to make boxes.
