Dominick Schiano Jr., a 19-year old non-MSU student from Franklin, was arrested for three crimes Friday night that began with a Snapple bottle, MSU police Sgt. Florene McGlothian-Taylor said.An officer on foot patrol approached Schiano's girlfriend at about 11:45 p.m. because she was believed to be underage and intoxicated. While the officer spoke with the 18-year-old girlfriend, Schiano approached the officer smelling heavily of alcohol. He handed the officer his bottle of Snapple juice, which was reportedly mixed with alcohol, and he turned and ran, police said. The officer followed Schiano, identifying herself as an officer. He refused to stop, and the officer finally grabbed him by the back of his upper arm. Schiano pulled away and attempted to run while the officer still held his right arm.He continued to push and grab the officer, who was unable to restrain him until a second officer arrived. After a final struggle, Schiano was arrested for minor in possession, assaulting a police officer and failure to obey a police officer. He was arraigned Saturday in 54-A District Court in Lansing. A 26-year-old male student reported receiving between 15 and 17 nuisance calls to his Spartan Village apartment last weekend, McGlothian-Taylor said.Since Oct. 3, the student reported about two or three calls each evening. Generally, the person on the other end hung up or stayed quiet on the line, McGlothian-Taylor said. But between 10 p.m. Saturday and 1:45 a.m. Sunday, the calls numbered 15 or more.At one point, the caller made comments about stealing the student's vehicle, but made no specific threats, McGlothian-Taylor said. The student said he did not recognize the voice, but identified it as male. Police have no suspects, and are continuing to investigate.
