MSU College of Law gets $100,000 grant

MSU's College of Law will expand its community outreach with a $100,000 grant awarded over two years to create and support a new clinic.

The college was awarded the grant to begin the Small Business/Nonprofit/Entrepreneurial Law Clinic, designed to assist and counsel law entities throughout the state.

"Clinical programs are more and more the focal point of law school curriculum," said Michele Halloran, MSU College of Law professor and Tax Clinic director. "To that extent, we should always be expanding our clinical programs in various ways depending on student demand and community need for programming."

The Coleman Foundation, which funded the grant, is primarily involved with entrepreneurial activity.

MSU College of Law business Professor Elliot Spoon is involved with increasing funds for the grant from private firms, other foundations and alumni.

He said the $50,000 that will be disbursed this year has almost been matched by other donations.
