Some students heading off to class in the morning are receiving a surprise once they reach the bike racks - their bikes are gone.
Residence halls are the source of most bike thefts, said MSU police Sgt. Florene McGlothian-Taylor.
Most thefts are concentrated in the Brody Complex, where rows of bike racks line dorm perimeters.
If a thief is set on stealing a bike, he or she will get it, McGlothian-Taylor said. But avoiding cable locks and locking it through the body and both wheels can help.
"The longer it takes to unlock, the more likely it won't be stolen," she said.
