Abrams Planetarium begins year-long interactive lecture series today

September 16, 2004

MSU professors of physics and astronomy will hold "Astronomical Horizons" lectures once a month throughout the school year.

"This is a little bit more of an interactive, scientific level for the general public," said Horace Smith, a physics and astronomy professor who started the series. "The focus is the forefront of modern research and the wider range of the farthest reaches of the universe, such as the planets and the space probes we launch into space."

Now in its second year, the lecture series begins today with "Waves, Storms and Explosions on White Dwarfs and Neutron Stars."

The monthly lectures are held at 7:30 p.m. at Abrams Planetarium.

Additional sessions will be held Oct. 14 and Nov. 11, with more sessions during spring semester.

"It should be an exciting time for those interested in the field or wishing to know more about the world outside of our own," Smith said

Tickets are $5 each, or a series pass can be purchased for $30.
