Study finds low incomes and brain tumors might be realted

A recent MSU study found that people in Michigan who have low incomes might be more likely to develop brain cancer.

Led by Paula Riess Sherwood of MSU's College of Nursing, the study reviewed more than 1,000 cases of people with brain cancer from 1996 to 1997. According to the study, the low-income category had 14.2 cases of brain cancer per 100,000 people; compared to 7.5 cases of brain cancer per 100,000 others.

Researchers are uncertain as to why low incomes correlate with higher rates of brain cancer.

This study can be found in a recent publication of Neurology, the scientific journal of American Academy of Neurology.
