Jose Cibelli, an MSU professor of animal science and physiology, is scheduled to speak to U.N. national delegates Wednesday about the possible benefits of stem-cell research used for therapy. Cibelli is one of four speakers in the Geneva briefing, which was organized by scientists and activists with concerns that the international community might ban stem-cell research.
Italian members of the European Parliament and the Luca Coscioni Association for Freedom of Scientific Research and Treatment organized the briefing. Cibelli's research at MSU deals with embryonic stem-cell cloning from animals. In February, he validated research of Korean scientists who created embryos without fertilization, through cloning.
