Nobel prize winner to speak on physics

Jerome Friedman, Nobel prize winner and professor of physics at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, will speak at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday in the Kellogg Center's Big Ten Room.

The talk will address the process of accepting the quark model, a new picture of the structure of matter, into the physics community and the effects it could have on concepts of matter.

Friedman won the physics Nobel Prize in 1990 with two of his colleagues for accomplishments that helped create the quark model in particle physics.

He also will give a talk entitled "New Horizons in Particle Physics" at 4:10 p.m. Thursday in room 1410 of the Biomedical and Physical Sciences Building.
