More e-mail accounts affected by glitch

April 29, 2004

Another group of e-mail accounts has been found to be part of the about 6,000 people affected by a software glitch last week.

A new group of about 400 account holders received an e-mail Wednesday urging them also to change their account passwords, after it was found they, too, were at risk. Unchanged passwords are scheduled to be disabled this morning.

Richard Wiggins, Academic Computing and Network Services senior information technologist, said only about 100 people in the original group still have inactive accounts. Those affected were notified via e-mail Monday to change passwords.

He said Academic Computing and Network Services is working to make sure, in the future, more people heed the e-mail warnings early.
