Panelists focus on contributions of Malcolm X

In celebration of Black History month, the Black History Committee with African American and African Studies presents a Malcolm X Symposium from 1 to 7 p.m. Wednesday in Parlors A, B and C of the Union.

From 1 to 3 p.m., there will be a panel discussing "The Real Malcolm X." Panelists include University of Michigan Assistant Professor Stephen Ward and MSU Professor Kathleen Rout.

From 3:15 to 5:15 p.m., there will be another panel discussing "Islam and Black America." Panelists include Ngere Wali, owner of Afrovisions, 945 N. Pine Street in Lansing, and Willie Davis, president of Davis Complex, 1136 Shepard St. in Lansing.

At 7 p.m., there will be a keynote address by James Cone, a professor at Union Theological Seminary in New York.

The panelists also are sponsored by the Lee June, vice president for student affairs and services, the Office of the Provost and the Office of Racial Ethnic Student Affairs.
