Internet telephony focuses on FCC issues

An Internet telephony meeting sponsored by MSU's Quello Center for Telecommunication Management & Law and the Institute of Public Utilities will take place from 1-4:30 p.m. today in the Union Parlor B and C. Internet telephony is voice service through the use of Internet.

Kathleen Abernathy, commissioner for the Federal Communications Commission, will address the possible effects that could come with telephony, such as lower costs for telephone service and the possible business and public policy issues it could raise. She also will provide updates for recent FCC initiatives in the area.

A tutorial session on Voice over IP will take place from 10:30 a.m. to noon. This session will give background knowledge for the afternoon workshop.

To participate, contact Brenda Dilday at (517) 432-8001 or e-mail quello@msu.edu.
