ASMSU committee to look at salary raise

ASMSU's Academic Assembly chairpersons will receive the same salaries as Student Assembly chairpersons if a bill to increase their wages passes at the next general assembly meeting. ASMSU is the undergraduate student government.

The bill, which is being evaluated by the code committee, applies to the chairperson, internal and external vice chairpersons and the director of undergraduate budgetary affairs. Each position would each receive about an $800 pay increase per semester.

The bill was introduced because salaries hadn't been evaluated in more than five years, Academic Assembly Chairman Jared English said, adding that Student Assembly increased its salaries last semester. The changes are primarily to match the rate of inflation, officials said.

"We figured we'd match it up," said College of Engineering representative Yadav Gopalan, who introduced the bill.

The changes won't come into effect until the next session, so no current members will be affected by the raise, Gopalan said.
