New cable network boasts music, news

January 22, 2004

MSU students used to seeing CTN: College Television Network on campus cable are in for a change.

The new network, mtvU, went on the air Tuesday. MTV Networks, a subsidiary of Viacom International Inc., acquired CTN in October 2002.

The network promises music programming, news, student life features, pro-social initiatives and more.

The new network has dates set through the beginning of February for campuses from which it broadcasts. The University of Michigan, Western Michigan University and Eastern Michigan University are slated for today and Friday, but MSU hasn't made the schedule yet.

The new network plans to give out a $1,500 grant to a campus activist every week, along with hosting a contest that will award winners with the prize of their choice - from a new car to a year's tuition.
