Greek recruitment to begin this week

January 26, 2004

Spring recruitment for some MSU fraternities and sororities begins this week. Fraternity recruitment runs Jan. 26-29, and sororities will be recruiting Feb. 2-5.

Men's recruitment in the Interfraternity Council will run from 7 to 10 p.m. each night at individual chapter houses. Potential new members can go from house to house, meeting current members and getting a feel for the house, said Mahfouz Ackall, recruitment vice president for Interfraternity Council.

A new feature of men's recruitment is recruitment teams, which are groups of men from fraternity houses stationed in neutral sites to help the process.

"They'll be making sure all recruitment procedures are followed. And they'll be helping out the potential new members, answering any questions they may have," Ackall said.

In addition, the council will begin keeping statistics this year for the first time.

Women's recruitment in the Panhellenic Council will kick off with an information night, held Feb. 2 at IM Sports-West, where all the sororities will have a booth and representatives to answer questions.
