Tax session to plan next year's changes

December 3, 2003

Farmers hoping to get a head start on their year-end tax planning can attend a discussion on Monday.

The event will take place from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Ingham County MSU Extension office, located at 121 E. Maple St. in the C. Ross Hilliard Building in Mason.

Earlier this year, the federal government expanded the 10 percent tax bracket for farmers and increased their Estate and Gift tax credit. Discussion on these changes and how they affect farmers will be led by Larry Borton, manager of MSU's Department of Agricultural Economics Telfarm Data Center and MSU tax specialist.

Betsy Dierberger, an agriculture agent for MSU Extension's Ingham County office, said the meeting will be helpful to inform farmers on the newest changes in tax law that directly affect them.

"It will give them some things to think about as the end of the year approaches, to allow them to plan ahead on their tax-form completion," Dierberger said.

Guests planning to attend are requested to register by contacting the Ingham County MSU Extension office at (517) 676-7207.
