Group gathers food for banks, kitchens

November 21, 2003

MSU and Michigan Harvest Gathering are hoping that football fans will save some food after tailgating this Saturday, especially the canned and non-perishable kind.

From 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. the group will be collecting food at the north end of the Ralph Young Track outside of Spartan Stadium.

The collected food will be distributed to local food banks, soup kitchens and food pantries.

The first 1,000 people to donate food or money will receive a free packet of hand warmers.

This weekend's match is the final home game of the season for the Spartans.

The Michigan Harvest Gathering campaign has provided food and money for needy Michigan families since 1991.
