Sparty is a figure that represents the entire Michigan State community, and we recognize the importance of his conduct at all times.

Therefore, the Student Alumni Foundation and the Sparty Mascot Program would like to apologize to the students, faculty, staff and alumni who were offended by Sparty's actions last Wednesday afternoon. His intentions were to make light of referees, not to belittle anyone with a disability.

In addition to athletic events, Sparty donates hundreds of hours every year assisting charitable organizations. This is much more indicative of his true character, and he will continue to be a symbol of the university that everyone can look to with pride.
