Film to feature Israeli Columbia astronaut

A film documenting the life and career of Israeli astronaut Ilan Ramon will be shown today at 7:30 p.m. in room 1345 of the Engineering Building.

"The First Israeli in Space" is the result of more than four years of filming leading up to NASA's Space Shuttle Columbia mission and destruction upon re-entry on Feb. 1.

The Jewish Studies Program in MSU's College of Arts and Letters will present the 70-minute movie.

Ramon was Israel's first astronaut and was considered a hero to the war-torn area. He was one of seven people killed when Columbia broke apart in the sky above Texas.

The documentary includes explanations of the daily routines of the astronauts, the equipment and the shuttle's mission.
