The MSU women's golf team finished third in the Lady Northern Invitational this weekend in close competition with four of the top-40 teams in the nation. MSU was led by freshman Heather Rose, with a 1-under-par 71 on Sunday helping her finish in sixth place.

The No. 4 Spartans' 897-stroke score put them in a dead heat with No. 39 Texas, No. 35 Ohio State and No. 6 Oklahoma, at 893, 895 and 900, respectively.

Also anchoring MSU were sophomore Dayna Burleigh and seniors Sarah Martin and Allison Fouch, each shooting 225 and tying for eighth place. Senior Ann Marie Kersten tied for 38th place and sophomore Jennifer Johnson tied for 47th.

Ohio State hosted the invitational at its home course in Columbus, Ohio.
