Highly touted recruit breaks verbal commitment

September 29, 2003

MSU's recruitment troubles are mounting - this time for the football program.

The Territory, an Internet publication devoted to recruitment activity for Florida State University, has reported that St. Martin De Porres (Detroit) wide receiver/running back Carl Grimes has rescinded his verbal commitment to the Spartans and is now focused on committing to the Seminoles.

Grimes told the online publication that his official decision will be based on a December visit to Tallahassee, Fla., but that he said it was "100-percent" likely he would give a solid verbal commitment to Florida State.

A highly touted 5-foot-9, 175-pound speedster, Grimes and his De Porres Eagles team are off to a 5-0 record this season. As a junior, he rushed for 800 yards and collected 935 receiving yards.
