Senior Michelle Carson was named the Big Ten Cross Country Female Athlete of the Week for the fifth time in her career at MSU.

At the Spartan invitational last Friday, Carson finished in first place out of 118 runners in the women's 6K race with a time of 20:53. It was Carson's second consecutive win at the Spartan Invitational.

Last season, Carson was named the Big Ten Cross Country Athlete of the Year, earned All-American Honors and was a top finisher on the Canadian National Team at the World Cross Country Championships in Lausanne, Switzerland.

The women's cross country team competes at the Roy Griak Invitational hosted by the University of Minnesota on Saturday. Carson set the meet record time in the event with a time of 20:41.6 in 2002.
