Capital campaign standings right on course with plans

September 22, 2003

Donors and workers from MSU's Capital Campaign gathered Friday at the President's Cabinet meeting to discuss the status of the five-year $1.2 billion fund-raiser.

The all-day event at The James B. Henry Center for Executive Development included college committee meetings, a reception hosted by MSU's first lady JoAnn McPherson at Cowles House and an evening dinner at the Kellogg Center.

Marti Heil, associate vice president and director of University Development, said the campaign is on track to meet its goal by 2007.

"We're on schedule or slightly ahead of where we need to be," she said. "That doesn't mean we can back off, it's a very aggressive and fast-paced campaign."

Heil said donors have raised more than $735 million for the campaign.

During the luncheon at the development center, MSU President M. Peter McPherson gave a 30-minute telephone interview telling the crowd he was returning to East Lansing within the week.
