ASMSU accepts applications after loan officer leaves

September 15, 2003

After two years of handling multiple aspects of ASMSU's loan program from the business office, loan clerk Gary Reason left his position Friday afternoon to pursue an inventory specialist position at Value City Furniture.

"It is very sad," the 39-year old Reason said after his co-workers presented him with a cake to honor his last day at ASMSU. "I really liked the job because I got to help everybody, from the freshmen to the seniors."

Reason's university position also allowed him to dabble in other ASMSU duties, which included working with the funding board and Red Cedar Log.

Reason said he will miss working with the university, but he is very comfortable with his new job and is looking forward to working closer to home.

"It has been interesting," Reason said of his time at ASMSU.

Missy Kushlak, Student Assembly chairperson, said six applicants were interviewed on Friday to fill the position, and it should not be much longer until someone is officially given the job.

"They need to hire someone who will be a real asset to the organization," Reason said of who will take over his position. "They need to be someone who can pick up where I left off and make the position even better."

But he's not expecting any problems filling the slot.

"They have some good candidates, so the void of my absence should be short-lived," he said. Reason said he enjoyed many memorable experiences during his time at ASMSU, such as taking minutes for Student Assembly meetings.

Kushlak said Reason's eagerness to take on multiple tasks made him a valuable member of ASMSU.

"He would always go the extra mile to help you out," she said. "He did a great job of getting our business office in order."

Tom Morse, Academic Assembly vice chairperson for internal affairs, said the organization will also miss Reason's friendly disposition, but "I won't miss hearing Rush Limbaugh on the radio all the time," he said.
