Red Bull Energy Drink will be sponsoring its first go-cart racing event on Thursday and Friday at 1 p.m.

MSU will be the first of several colleges in the midwest, including the University of Michigan and Western Michigan University, to hold the program.

There will be 10 teams made up of four to 10 students competing against each other for prizes donated by Red Bull.

Thursday's race will last for two hours. Each team member will complete the same amount of laps until the race is finished.

After the race, there will be an award ceremony and then sprint races from 4 to 6 p.m. for individuals.

The competition for the fastest lap will be on Friday from 1 to 5 p.m. The go-carts are designed like race cars and reach up to 45 mph.

The races will be held at the Meijer parking lot on 2055 W. Grand River Ave. in Okemos on both Thursday and Friday.
