Horticulture institute to hold conference with gardening events

MSU's Horticulture Gardening Institute will host its third hands-on container garden event, offering gardeners and gardening enthusiasts new ideas on how to keep their gardens growing all year.

"The Art, Science and Future of Container Gardens" is scheduled from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 25, at the Plant and Soil Sciences Building.

The keynote speaker will be Jim Wilson, a garden expert and former co-host of PBS' "The Victory Garden."

Wilson is going to speak to spectators will highlight his gardening experiences and give advice on container gardening techniques.

The Horticulture Gardening Institute, which turns one year old this year, pairs the hands-on gardening events with a matching online curriculum.

Results of the first-ever plant trialing program will be presented by Proven Winners.

The program launched in May with Horticulture Gardening Institute gardeners.

The cost of the event is $70 and includes full access to the 12-week online container garden program, a one-year membership to the American Horticultural Society, a one-year subscription to "The American Gardener," access to Gardening Institute experts and a bi-monthly electronic newsletter.

To register, gardeners can go to www.gardeninginstitute.com or send an e-mail to info@gardeninginstitute.com.
