Board gives highest honor to 10 professors

The MSU Board of Trustees approved the designation of 10 MSU faculty members as university distinguished professors.

The title is the highest honor a faculty member can receive at MSU. University distinguished professors are chosen for their national and international academic contributions.

The designation of university distinguished professor began in 1989 and since then 84 faculty members have been selected to receive $5,000 each year for five years in addition to their salaries.

Here are the new members to the university distinguished professor list:

• Howard Brody, Department of Family Practice and the Department of Philosophy.

• Marilyn Frye, Department of Philosophy.

• Jack Harkema, Department of Pathobiology and Diagnostic Investigation.

• Hassan Khalil, Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering.

• John Ohlrogge, Department of Plant Biology.

• Dennis Preston, Department of Linguistics and Germanic, Slavic, Asian and African Languages.

• Bradley Sherrill, Department of Physics and Astronomy.

• Terrie Taylor, Department of Internal Medicine.

• Michael Thomashow, Department of Crop and Soil Sciences.

• Gary Westfall, Department of Physics and Astronomy.
