Students target of RHA cancer pamphlet campaign

MSU Residence Halls Association will distribute cancer self-exam cards in on-campus resident mailboxes Jan. 21.

RHA Health and Safety Director Adam Schaffer said the pamphlets will encourage women to start screening themselves for breast cancer starting at age 18, with monthly self-exams and regular visits to a physician.

The group is also focusing their efforts on men, who can get testicular cancer as early as age 15.

"Most males don't know this information, nor are they told," Schaffer said. "College is a great time to start the self-exams and yearly physicals."

This RHA-sponsored project is aimed to make the student population take a more active role in their health in general.

"I'm looking at it as a stepping stone to other areas such as smoking, exercising, and nutrition," Schaffer said.
