Professor wins research award

Mercouri Kanatzidis, a university distinguished chemistry professor, has been presented with the 2002 Humboldt Research Award.

Kanatzidis and Anil K. Jain, university distinguished professor in the departments of computer science and engineering, are the only two MSU recipients. Awards are based on lifetime achievement.

The award is given to 150 people worldwide who may use it to carry out research projects for six months to a year in Germany.

Kanatzidis received the award for his work in areas dealing with thermoelectric materials.

Recipients of the award, sponsored by the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation, are nominated by German scientists.
