Programs to get 'U' to volunteer abroad

International Student Travel is holding informational meetings for its volunteer work and travel programs this summer. The company will hold hourly meetings on the trips from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday in the Union Purdue Room.

The summer volunteer work and travel programs will be offered in Costa Rica, Australia, New Zealand, the Dominican Republic and the U.S. West Coast.

The programs will focus on volunteer work and outdoor explorations in various countries, offering students a chance to learn and do community service.

The first two weeks of the program focus on volunteer work and include conservation and community development projects.

Projects include sea turtle conservation, teaching English to children, building homes and community-building programs.

During the second two weeks, students will participate in outdoor adventure tours ranging from white-water rafting and jungle kayaking in Costa Rica to climbing glaciers in New Zealand.

The company also offers academic credit available through San Francisco State University.
